    Beth’s father. A bubbly man who loves practical jokes and his daughter, though he feels their relationship has begun to drift apart.

    The Other – Male, 20–30 (Antagonist)
    A sly and sinister man, his origin unknown, who just wants to live his life, though he is drawn to the crueller and nastier parts of it.

    The Stranger – Male, 30–50 (Supporting)
    A confused, eerie presence. Similar to The Other, his origin and life are unknown.

    Synopsis
    Beth is out for an awkward welcome-home meal with her parents and her girlfriend. Mid-meal, her father goes to the toilet and does not return. In his place, a younger man comes and sits down with them. Beth becomes frightened and searches for her father to no avail, while no one else seems to notice the difference.

    A ritual authority figure. Slightly absurd, possibly uncanny. Present during funeral rites and confession sequence.

    • Ability to shift between solemn and subtly unsettling
    Minimal dialogue.

    Turmoil Devotion follows Belle, a young aspiring ballet dancer battling anxiety and a visible skin condition while pursuing her dream of entering a prestigious academy. Through dance, she finds both escape and healing. When a passionate young filmmaker begins documenting her ballet school, their connection deepens, and devotion begins to grow in unexpected ways.

    The film explores themes of resilience, vulnerability, identity, and the transformative power of the arts.

    A tired elderly woman struggles while celebrating her 80th birthday. When she hears a popular 1950s tune, she is transported back to childhood memories with her older sister. Through revisiting her sister’s advice, she returns to the present with a renewed outlook.

    Lonely, depressed and closed off. She heavily mourns the loss of her older sister, Vera.

    LINSEY (50s)
    Cheerful, hospitable and warm. Lives with and cares for her mother Lisa full time, yet has hardly heard about Vera.

    CHILD LISA (8)
    A bubbly, naïve and attentive little girl who loves baking and dancing with her older sister, whom she idolises.

    VERA (12–14)
    An intelligent, sensible and free-spirited girl who enjoys reading, both independently and to her younger sister Lisa.
