Sogliardo – (M/F. Any ethnicity. Playing age 25-35) “I have land and money, and I will be a gentleman whatsoever it cost me” Sogliardo is an utter fool from the country who has come to the city to become a gentleman, even if he has to buy it. Naively taking any advice he can get about how to behave in the city, Sogliardo is suckered into whatever scheme that even suggests it may elevate his status. Innocent, trusting and full of good-intentions, but utterly gullible.
Fungoso (Male-presenting / NB. Any ethnicity. Playing age 20-30) – “How like you the fashion? It’s the last edition, I assure you” Fungoso is a student in the city, but he is far more interested in keeping up with the latest fashion than his studies. When he isn’t trying to show off his latest suit, he’s desperately trying to beg, borrow and steal whatever money he can for his next suit. Obsessive, vain and absolutely melodramatic.
Dual role – Sordido / Saviolina (M/F. Any ethnicity. Playing age 30+) Sordido – “Why let ‘em starve. What’s that to me?” Sordido is an underhanded farmer, scheming how to make the most profit from his crops, even if he screws over all of his neighbours. Merciless, deceitful and a downright dirtbag (CW: this role does involve an attempted suicide). Saviolina – “I can find sparks of a gentleman” Saviolina believes herself to be the essence of grace, the talk of the court, and though some believe her fallacy, most people can tell that her taste is uninspired and that her vanity blinds her to what makes a Lord or a Lady. A vision of vanity.
