    A University of Portsmouth student production is casting two actresses for a short film exploring the difficult realities faced by ballet dancers, including themes of pressure, identity and domestic abuse.

    Synopsis
    Set in the winter of 2008, a daughter returns to her childhood home, once again confronted by her mother’s expectations. This time, however, she refuses to remain trapped. What follows is a raw and emotional confrontation where long-buried truths and suffocating love finally collide.

    The 5-minute short film explores themes of nostalgia, identity, sacrifice, acceptance and family relationships.

    A young ballet dancer nearing the end of training at one of the UK’s most prestigious dance schools. Returning home, she must face the complicated relationship she has with her mother.

    Jane’s mother. Once an aspiring ballet dancer herself, she sacrificed her own ambitions and has never fully forgiven nor forgotten that loss.
