  • CASTING CALL – ANTIGONE

    Description

    London Theatre – Profit Share

Casting is now open for a new independent adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone, scheduled for performance in late March / April 2026 (exact dates and venue TBC).

    Roles Available

All roles are open to inclusive and non-traditional casting.
Gender is not a determining factor for any role.
All roles will involve chorus work and some devising.

    CREON / CHORUS
    Text-heavy role

Newly appointed ruler of Thebes. Charismatic and authoritative, Creon believes deeply in law, order, and civic responsibility. Acting from good intentions rather than villainy, his certainty is gradually tested and fractured. Beneath his controlled exterior emerge doubt, vulnerability, and moral conflict.

Requires strong command of language, emotional range, and stamina for dense text.

    ISMENE / EURYDICE / CHORUS

    Ismene
Antigone’s sister. Cautious, empathetic, and pragmatic, Ismene is torn between loyalty and fear. She represents survival, compromise, and endurance over resistance. The role demands emotional subtlety and the ability to hold inner conflict beneath restraint.

    Eurydice
Creon’s partner and Queen of Thebes. Appearing briefly near the tragic end of the play, Eurydice carries immense emotional weight. Requires the ability to convey grief, fear, and moral clarity through restraint and quiet strength.

    HAEMON / CHORUS

Creon’s child and Antigone’s intended. Passionate, idealistic, and emotionally conflicted, Haemon stands between generations and opposing ideologies. Courageous enough to challenge authority and break cycles of inherited power and trauma.

    TEIRESIAS / GUARD / MESSENGER / CHORUS
    Text-heavy role

Multiple roles requiring versatility and strong storytelling skills.
Teiresias is the truth-bearer, demanding authority and wisdom beyond human years.
The Guard and Messenger ground the play in realism, offering tonal contrast and moments of dark or dry humour.

    Rehearsals & Performances

    PHIL
    ~60-80yo, Male Identifying
Phil is dead. As the only character in the show who is already in the afterlife, Phil is free to move around the mortal world as he pleases, sometimes even breaking the fourth wall. Phil is present to see his wife Anse as she crosses over, and through this witnesses his family process grief.

    KATE
    ~30-40yo, Female Identifying
Kate is a lawyer who is happily married to her wife Ana. She has a 15 year old son, Sam, who is still struggling with the death of his father. She is the oldest of Phil and Anse’s three children. Kate is present to ensure her mother’s smooth passing.

    RENÉE
    ~25-35yo, Female Identifying
Renée is an actor-influencer who is chronically cuffed. Her current infatuation is her boyfriend Rob. She is the youngest of Phil and Anse’s three children. Renée is present in an attempt to reconnect with her family.

Please note that this role may include a scene involving intimacy (stage kiss & simulated / implied sex) and possibly partial nudity (undergarments). This is scalable to the performer’s comfort level. This part of the scene will be choreographed in a closed room. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

    KIT
    14-15yo, Female Identifying / Non-Binary
Kit is Sam’s biology partner. They are not friends (yet). Kit does not really have friends, but doesn’t think she needs them either. She meets Sam’s family for the first time, and is also the only person to have an encounter with Phil apart from Anse. Kit is present in a very strange dedication to “complete her biology project”.
