Characters
Karl Hendryk – a professor who along with his wife and her cousin, has fled from persecution in their homeland
Anya Hendryk – Karl’s wife, with a progressively debilitating disease, who regrets leaving her homeland and resents living in England
Lisa Koletzky – cousin of Anya, close friend and lives with both Anya and Karl
Dr Stoner – physician to Anya and friend of the family
Helen Rollander – a spoiled student who takes up private lessons with the professor
Lester Cole – a student of the professor
Sir William Rollander – the wealthy father of Helen who offers a possibility of a cure for Anya’s illness
