THE UPSETTERS are producing an exciting new show which will be performed at the Soho Theatre Upstairs from 16 May to 3 June 2023.

Tony Craze Award shortlisted playwright Daniel Rusteau’s debut play Dismissed is a grounded and propulsive, witty but hard-hitting drama that shines a light on class and racism in the state education system and raises questions about masculinity, punishment and parenting of young Black men.

Character Briefs
The Dismissed cast will be made up of five performers. We are casting for the two main roles: Ashley and Susan.

ASHLEY
A hopeful, passionate yet combative sociology teacher who’s two years into her career. She’s empathetic and enthusiastic but her prickly and challenging temperament can get her in trouble, as Ashley is unable to just let things go.

Gender: Female

Playing Age: Mid to Late Twenties

Ethnicity: Black/Mixed

SUSAN
A stern, witty, and quietly intimidating head-teacher, Susan has worked in the state school system for almost twenty five years. A skillful debater and charmer with a ferocious temper, she can be either your best friend or worst enemy at the drop of a hat.
