Casting Call – Comedy Pilot Hi there, looking for some characters for a rehearsed reading taking place in SW London in June. Ruth – female, mid 20s/early 30s Scatty but hard working, loveable but unlucky in love, the director of the theatre company. Ruth needs to be played by someone with great comedy chops but a slice of vulnerability too. Think Rose Matafeo Starstruck. Rachel – female, late 20s/mid 30sVain, proud, but ultimately kind, Rachel is Ruth’s older sister and has enjoyed a luxurious life up until her recent split with MP husband. Needs someone great at playing it dead straight. Helen – female, mid 30s/40s, black A GP in her day job, and juggling teenage twin girls and a kitchen renovation, Helen is the master of the To Do list, and loved by the whole ensemble. The kind you call in a crisis. Needs someone you would trust with your life, but who’s also got a dry sense of humour. Lana – female or GNC, mid 40s No nonsense with a hint of neurospicy, Lana is all about taking care of the company as the choreographer. She manages to do this with a bark worse than her bite as most of the time everything she says is very literal. Matthew – male, mid 30s, Dishy Maths Teacher who got into theatre to support one of his students, Matthew is quite unaware of his charms. Earnest and warm. Jed – male, 17 (can be played by an 18+ actor who passes for a teen), black A future football star, and confident without being cocky, Jed is an all rounder. The lead in the show, he’s been raised with impeccable manners and has his sights set on playing for Chelsea one day. Tyler – male, 15/16 (can be played by an 18+ actor who passes for a teen), black The funniest kid in class, always has an answer for everything but a bit unsure of his place. Looks up to Jed but would never admit it. Goofy and sweet. Faith – female, 14 (can be played by an 18+ actor who passes for a teen), black The oldest of the twins, by 17 minutes. Confident and bright, but perpetually bored. Often in fights with Tyler. Charis – female, 14 (can be played by an 18+ actor who passes for a teen), blackThe younger of the twins, Charis is less confident than her sister, this show will be her first solo which she is nervous about. Still needs excellent comedy chops. Millie – female, 14/15 (can be played by an 18+ actor who passes for a teen), whiteYoung performer who loves the stage, and has a giant crush on Jed. Alyssa – female, mid 20s Passionate about AmDram, Alyssa always has a speaking part but doesn’t have the greatest singing voice. What she lacks in talent she makes up for in hard workBeano – male, mid 40sA Streatham Stars alumni, Beano has been performing in shows since he was a teenager and loves the ensemble and getting the bus to and from rehearsal. His disability means he won’t ever have a job, so he loves to perform as much as possible. Has a happy life with his mum and his dog at home.Elora – female, 60s/70s, Caribbean Very switched on with some great one liners, she can often be found with a book or crossword puzzle when she isn’t rehearsing for the next show. Aunty to all in the company, not much gets past her. Albert – male, 60s/70sA serial catastrophiser, Albert is always anxious. It has served him well as a tax advisor, and the treasurer of the Streatham Stars. He’s also a lovely baritone. Milicent – female, 60s/70sSlightly deaf pianist, Milicent is always smiling but not always sure what’s going on. She also does props for the shows which can sometimes lead to pirates pulling plastic gourds, rather than swords, from their holsters on opening night.
